Question for my fellow bloggers before I get into the November highlights - how much do you promote your blog off-line? I'm asking because I just found out there is a Little Free Library near me and I want to donate some books - would it be silly to include a sticker in the book with my blog name?
The cheesy holiday movies are out in full force! For whatever reason, my husband loves silly, romantic holiday movies, so that's what we've been watching! We had our first snow of the year here in NJ - you may have heard about the 5, 7, even 9 hour commutes that day? It was nuts.
Of course, the biggest part of November is Thanksgiving. We normally host Tom's family on the actual day, but our plans were different this year. We had his family over the weekend before, because my brother and his family were coming for a visit from Oklahoma the week of Thanksgiving. We got to spend lots of time with him, my sister-in-law, and their two boys. I took a day off work and had everyone (including my parents and sister) over - the kids decorated my doors with snowflake stickers and we also decorated some cookies. We spent Thanksgiving day with my family; since we don't get to see my brother that often, it was so nice to be able to spend a holiday with them. We exchanged Christmas gifts, too, since we won't see them again this year.
Team Outlaw is 7-4 and tied for second place heading into the last week of the regular fantasy football season. This week will determine our standings in the playoffs, so fingers crossed!
Last thing, I promise! The Project Linus chapter that I work with, Project Linus of Mercer County, NJ, is holding an online Barnes & Noble fundraiser from December 4 through 9. If you're thinking about buying books for the holidays, I ask that you please consider supporting Project Linus on those days. You can use Book Fair ID#12465076 during checkout to support this wonderful charity that provides handmade blankets to children that are ill or traumatized. Thank you!

How was your Thanksgiving? Have you started your Christmas shopping yet (if you celebrate)? And for my fellow bloggers, how do you promote your blog out in the real world?

Nobody in my real life reads, so I don’t promote my blog offline at all. I’m not even sure how to promote it. I wouldn’t be mad if I found a blog advertisement inside a book. I find bookstore ads inside used books pretty often because people use them as bookmarks. I’m glad you had a good Thanksgiving. Happy December!
ReplyDeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Thanks, Aj! Oh, a bookmark would be perfect!
DeleteI think a sticker in the books you're giving away is a great idea. Go for it! I'm glad you could spend Thanksgiving with family, that's a real blessing. I hope your December will be wonderful!
ReplyDeleteRonnie @ Paradise Found
Thanks, Ronnie! I'm so glad they made the trip out here, we don't see them enough!
DeleteUgh that snow!! My husband was one of the 7 hour commutes. So bad. Looks like a good reading month! Hope you have a great December!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Grace! Oh, man, my 1.5 hour commute that day really wasn't so bad!
DeleteWhat a fun month! And yes, you should definitely get stickers with your blog on them!!
ReplyDeleteHaha, still thinking about it!
DeleteI don`t really promote my blog offline, but most of my family and friends know about it. For whatever reason, I can a bit shy talking about it with people IRL. I think that has to do with the fact that I view it more of a hobby, so I don`t put too much focus on it. You should definitely put the stickers, I think that`s a great idea.
ReplyDeleteCarmen`s Reading Corner
Thanks, Georgiana! I don't really talk about my blog IRL either, but somehow it seems easier to tell strangers about it?
DeleteThe snowstorm was terrible! I am ashamed that NJ was not prepared for it. We didn't even get that much snow. #weak. I think the stickers are good idea. I don't promote at all, but hey, if you are donating the books, why not? I loved The Rosie Project. The second book was a little tough for me, because they were having issues, but the first one was total delight.
ReplyDeleteThe Rosie Project was so cute! Looking forward to the second one.
DeleteThat snow was ridiculous! I don't know if it was because everyone decided to leave work early and the roads just got jammed and the plows couldn't get through or what!
I've not really tried to promote my blog offline but I think a sticker sounds like a great idea. Not silly at all.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you and your family had a wonderful time together and that's great that you got to do Thanksgiving and Christmas with them.
It was a wonderful holiday! It's hard having our nephews so far away, I worry that they won't really know us!
DeleteWonderful wrap up! I think adding a sticker is a great idea! I have business cards that I occasionally put into books I donate :)
ReplyDeleteOoh, business cards are a good idea!
DeleteGlad you had a nice Thanksgiving and are enjoying some silly holiday movies :-) I don't promote my blog offline cuz I don't have anywhere to promote it, but I think including a sticker or bookmark sounds like a great idea!
ReplyDeleteYes, now that I think about it, a bookmark would be great!
DeleteI don't know anyone in real life who reads as much as I do, so I just keep the blog on the down low. People know I have a blog, but I have never shared the url with them. Nothing wrong with enjoying silly holiday movies. I like to watch them while I blog and catch up on comments. I bought all the kids in my life presents already because I am not about to brave those stories so near Christmas. Hope you have a wonderful December, Angela!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Alicia! Yeah, I like getting my shopping done early, too!
DeleteI only told a couple friends/family about my blog, but someone they keep finding out about it!
I read The Lost City of Z and enjoyed it a lot. My wrap-up is here: https://wordsandpeace.com/2018/11/30/2018-november-wrap-up/
ReplyDeleteIt was really interesting!
DeleteI don't promote my blog outside of... well, the online world, so I wouldn't know how to help, but I feel like it'd be perfectly okay to have a lovely sticker in the books you donate :)
ReplyDeleteYou had a lovely reading month! I'm really curious to hear your thoughts on The Light Between The World, that book sounds great :)
Have a wonderful month! <3
Thanks, Marie! I loved that book, it was really beautiful!
DeleteDefinitely go ahead and put those stickers in the books you donate :) There's nothing wrong with that. I don't promote my blog outside of this platform, per se, but then I don't really get the chance to. I think what you're doing is perfectly fine :)
ReplyDeleteAh cheesy romantic holiday movies! I've also been watching some, but unfortunately none have really got me in the Christmasy mood... they've been particularly bad, haha. You get cheesy and then you get really really cheesy, and I haven't hit the jackpot yet, lol. But hopefully more will come on Netflix soon.
Have a lovely December, Angela!
Thanks, Amy! Yes, these movies are so cheesy! Even my husband had to roll his eyes at the one we watched last night! People literally getting engaged/married after knowing each other for a week!
DeleteThis is such an amazing month, Angela! I see some I’ve read and enjoyed, too, and so many more I want to try! Well-done!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jennifer!
DeleteI don't really promote my blog offline, just because I have never been able to think of any ways to do it, other than telling people I know about it (and I'm super weird about people I know in real life reading my blog! I don't know why!). Putting stickers in donated books sounds like a great idea though!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you've had such a good November, and I hope you have a great December! :)
Thanks, Laura! No, I'm the same way - I don't like telling people I know about it, for some reason it's easier to tell strangers!
DeleteAs long as you mean tucking stickers for someone to use into the book, not sticking them to the book, I think that's a lovely idea. Go for it!
ReplyDeleteThanks! Now I see some other ideas, bookmarks or business cards, and those seem like great options, too!
DeleteI was stuck in the snow in NJ getting out of school to go to my brothers who lives literately 5 miles away took me over an hour and half that's how nuts it was. What a mess. I think if you had a sticker in there with your blog name, I don't think it would be bad. I don't know I have never been faced with that before. But, why not?
ReplyDeleteMary
That snow was nuts - we've obviously had way worse, but for some reason, it was a mess!
DeleteI'm trying to think of some other options for the stickers - maybe bookmarks?
