TV Shows I'm Obsessed With Lately #6

Wrecked is about a group of people who become stranded on an island after a plane crash.  This show is so funny - watching these people attempt to survive in ridiculous situations.  The third season just started, so catch up if you can!

Face Off is a special effects makeup competition show.  I'm so sad that it just finished airing its 13th and final season, but since we only started watching a few seasons ago, I'm going back and watching it from the beginning.  I'm just in awe of the characters and makeups the artists come up with each week.  So imaginative!

I guess I'm on a reality kick lately, because I've also been watching Making It, which is a crafting competition show.  It's hosted by Amy Poehler and Nick Offerman, who is apparently also an accomplished woodworker.  Each crafter kind of has their own specialty or medium they like to use, whether it's paper, wood, or felt.  They are so creative and inspiring!

TV Shows I'm Obsessed With Lately #5

Hmm, am I watching TOO much TV lately?  Here are some more shows I've been watching...

Tyra. Is. Back.  I used to watch America's Next Top Model religiously, but I haven't seen it in so long!  I decided to try it out again this cycle, with Tyra Banks returning after leaving for a year.  The drama, the cattiness, the photos - I'm obsessed.

Future Man is a comedy about a janitor who is recruited by two resistance fighters from the future to help save the world.  If you're not easily offended, you'll probably love this one, too - it's raunchy, it's outrageous, but it's so fun!  And it stars Josh Hutcherson and Eliza Coupe, both of whom I love.

So, 9-1-1 doesn't have the most original premise (it focuses on the EMTs, police officers, and firefighters of Los Angeles), but it's so good and has a great cast.  I especially love Connie Britton as a 9-1-1 operator who is also dealing with a mother with early onset Alzheimer's.

TV Shows I'm Obsessed With Lately #4

Although I probably liked the first season slightly better, I'm still loving the second season of The Crown on Netflix.  It's no secret that I love royalty, so I am fascinated by this show about Queen Elizabeth II.  And this season devotes whole episodes to other members of the royal family, including the Queen's sister, Princess Margaret, and her son, Prince Charles.

Travelers is yet another fantastic original series by Netflix.  In this series, the future is a bleak place, so "travelers" are sent back to the present-day to try to prevent all the things that caused society to collapse.  The consciousness of the traveler is transferred into the body of someone who is just about to die, saving them and taking over their lives in order to complete missions.  If you love time travel and sci-fi, there are two great seasons of this show to binge!

No matter how many years it's been since my own wedding, I will never get tired of looking at pretty dresses (especially ones I could never afford!) and hearing about people's love stories.  I can lose an entire afternoon watching reruns, and the new season has finally started!

TV Shows I'm Obsessed With Lately #3

 

The Bold Type is such a fun show about three young women who work for a Cosmo-like magazine - one is a secretary, one is a social media coordinator, and one is a writer.  It's pretty cool to see some behind-the-scenes stuff about how magazines are run, and of course, there's always lots of personal drama as well!

Based on a novel by James Patterson, Zoo is about a group of people who investigate an outbreak of violent animal attacks around the globe.  We've been binge-watching the first two seasons on Netflix and, yeah, it gets a little outlandish at times, but it's so addictive!

 

It's no secret that I'm a huge fan of disaster stories, so when I heard about this summer series about an asteroid heading towards earth, I knew I had to watch it.  Government conspiracies, shady reporters, and confusing science abound - but if you suspend disbelief for awhile, it's actually a pretty fun show!

5 TV Shows I Didn't Know Were Based On Books

There are tons of TV shows out there based on books - Game of Thrones, Big Little Lies, 13 Reasons Why, Gossip Girl, True Blood, Pretty Little Liars... the list goes on and on.  But I was surprised to find out recently that a show Tom and I were binging on Netflix was based on a book, so it got me thinking - what other shows out there are book adaptations and I didn't even know it?

 

Shooter - I knew of the movie of the same name that tells the story of a marksman framed for an assassination attempt on the President, but when we started watching season 1 on Netflix, I read an article about the upcoming season 2 that pointed out which books in the Bob Lee Swagger series by Stephen Hunter were being adapted for television.

 

Friday Night Lights - This is another one where I knew of the film but not the book, which is actually a non-fiction book that tells the story of a high school football team in Texas in the late 1980s.

 

Boardwalk Empire - The HBO drama is based on a true crime story written by a New Jersey judge about the politics and criminals of Atlantic City.

 

Longmire - This show, about a sheriff in a Wyoming county, is based on a series of mystery novels by Craig Johnson.

 

The Last Ship - This action/drama series about the aftermath of a global virus that kills most of the world's population, leaving a lone American naval ship to find a cure and save the world, is adapted from a post-apocalyptic fiction novel of the same name, although with some pretty big changes (namely, the book is about nuclear warfare, not a virus).

TV Shows I'm Obsessed With Lately #2

Tom and I watched this show years ago and I loved it, so for Christmas he bought me the box set of the entire series and now I'm working my way through it again.  I'm just fascinated by the Tudors and I'll pretty much read or watch anything related to this family!

Tom watches BBC America for Doctor Who; I watch it for Graham Norton.  Graham Norton hosts a British talk show and he is just hilarious.  It's similar to our late-night talk shows here in the US: he does a monologue, chats with celebrities, and has a musical guest each week.

Ah, Neflix, you've done it again!  This series tells the story of a young woman starting her own online vintage clothing store.  It's just a really cute and fun show!  And it's based on the autobiography #GIRLBOSS, by Sophia Amoruso, which I really should read.  (Unfortunately, I just found out it's been cancelled and won't be getting a second season, but hey, at least you can binge this season.)

TV Shows I'm Obsessed With Lately #1

Occasionally I take breaks from reading, and during those breaks, I tend to watch a lot of TV!  Here's some shows I'm obsessed with lately...

Is anyone else watching So Cosmo?  This reality show on E! follows the employees of Cosmopolitan magazine.  Like with all reality shows, it can get a little fake with the drama, but I love this one because of the behind-the-scenes look at the creating of a major magazine.

I know very little about money, and even less about business, but I can't get enough of Shark Tank.  Not only do I watch new episodes on Friday nights, but CNBC runs re-runs of old episodes practically every night of the week.  I love to see what products and services all these entrepreneurs come up with.

And not just RHONY, but almost all iterations of the Real Housewives franchise.  It's just hilarious watching these wealthy, (mostly) elegant women act so low-class sometimes!  Right now on Bravo is a vortex of Housewives shows, with 4 locations all airing at the same time, at various points in their seasons.  My favorite Beverly Hills is finishing up, and Potomac and New York are just getting started!
