Month in Review: October 2026

As usual, October was a busy month for us!  Tom ran three 5ks, and at one of them, Henry and I signed on to be course cheerleaders!  We had a lot of fun cheering everyone on!  Tom and I celebrated our 13th wedding anniversary, which seems crazy to me!  We attended the Morristown Festival of Books (blog post linked below if you missed it) and got to see a great panel with Tessa Bailey.  I hosted my first service project for Kiwanis, a Make a Blanket Day for Project Linus.  We had a great turnout and were able to make 21 blankets!  My stepmom hosted her annual Halloween party for the grandkids and it was so fun!  The kids had a blast, as usual, with all the games and candy!  Tom and I were asked to be on the state district board for Kiwanis, serving as service co-chairs, and I attended our first board meeting of the year.  It was kind of nerve-wracking to have to give a report to a room full of people, but I came away with a lot of good information.  We ended the month walking in a local Halloween parade (again, with Kiwanis).  Henry and Tom had fun riding on the float while I handed out candy to kids along the parade route!

Month in Review: September 2026

After our road trip, it was back to work and school for all of us!  Henry started pre-k at daycare, which means we are just that much closer to him starting real school!  ::sobs::  But we had a fun September!  We went to a fun fair day for a local town.  We also went to a hot air balloon festival - after going to his first one last year, Henry was very much looking forward to going back.  And this time, he got to cross an item off his bucket list when he took a (tethered) hot air balloon ride!  Weatherwise, we experienced a weekend nor'easter that caused a lot of cancelled plans, but we managed to get to a pizza challenge event, where we got to eat a lot of pizza and vote for the best pizzeria!

Side note - parents, when did your kids start calling you "mom" and "dad" versus "mommy" and "daddy"?  Henry has recently started calling me mom, and I have to admit, I'm really missing "mommy"!

Month in Review: August 2026

August was a busy month!  We attended a big picnic with our community service group, and then my mom came to visit!  She stayed at my sister's house but came up to our house to attend Henry's music class with us.  My sister had a pool party, which was a lot of fun.  Henry's daycare took a fieldtrip to the Land of Make Believe, a small theme park here in NJ.  We celebrated Tom's birthday and then went on our big vacation for the summer - a road trip to Pittsburgh, Grand Rapids, and Cleveland!  We went to 3 zoos, visited lighthouses and windmills, saw some cool sculptures, gardens, and parks, and of course, visited some indie bookstores!  We also got to meet up with our Chicago-area family and meet our nephew!

Month in Review: July 2026

July was a decent month!  We took Henry to the movies to see the new Minions movie, and he had fun!  We spent 4th of July in my sister's pool, which was so nice!  Henry started music again, so that's been a fun way to spend Saturday mornings.  We took advantage of our zoo membership to attend a Member's Night, free from the crowds.  My college roommate passed through New Jersey on a road trip, so we met up for dinner - it was so good to see her and catch up!  My stepmom hosted a craft day for the ladies, and it was such a fun, chill day - no kids or husbands allowed!  My craft was a paint-by-number painting, which is now proudly displayed in my home office, ha!  The weather this month has been wild - some seriously hot weather, wildfire smoke that kept us indoors for a couple days, and lots of thunderstorms!  But thankfully, we also got some really beautiful days.

Month in Review: June 2026

June was a pretty quiet month for us!  Henry finished up tball with a couple more games, and he even got his first trophy at the end-of-season celebration!  We went to a pool party for his cousins' birthdays and then I went to a big puzzle swap, where I snagged several new puzzles!  We had my in-laws over for a BBQ and celebrated Tom for Father's Day.  Other than that, we've been enjoying walks around the neighborhood and trips to the playground.

Month in Review: May 2026

May was another busy month!  Henry continued tball - I was very nervous when he refused to play any of the second game, but after that, he was excited to go to practice and his games, and he's doing great!  My sister and I attended a book event with author Sally Hepworth (linked below if you missed the original post!).  We took our annual trip to Cape May with my in-laws.  We had really nice weather and spent a lot of time walking around Cape May, visiting lighthouses, walking the boardwalk, and shopping downtown.  Memorial Day weekend was almost a total washout, so it ended up being a very relaxing weekend for us.  We ended the month with a Somerset Patriots game (our local minor league baseball team).  Henry and Tom got to walk the field with our tball league and Henry saw fireworks in person for the first time - he was so excited, he couldn't stop yelling!
