Tudor Queens Book Tag!

Jess at Jessticulates created her own original tag, called the Tudor Queens Book Tag!  Even before I saw that she tagged me to take part, I knew I wanted to give it a go myself, because I am a huge Tudor fan!  All graphics are courtesy of Jess!

Elizabeth of York: In Henry's Sisters, the siblings had a difficult childhood with their mother, leaving the sisters with myriad issues as adults.  They also thought their father was dead when he actually wasn't.  Henry is the only "normal" one in this family!

Katherine of Aragon: I'd been hearing about Red Rising around the blogosphere for awhile, so I figured I would try it.  Right from the start, I couldn't get into the world-building.  I thought about DNFing, but just ended up skimming most of the book.

Anne Boleyn: I really enjoyed The Nanny Diaries the first couple times I read it, but just don't feel a pull towards it anymore.  Plus, the sequel was pretty terrible.

Jane Seymour: Dear Mrs. Bird was a short, quick read that packed a lot of charm and heart.

Anne of Cleves: I had seen some god reviews of Rebel of the Sands, but I'll be honest, I mostly read it because I loved the cover!

Kathryn Howard: The romance in How to Walk Away wasn't so much forbidden as it was unethical.

Katherine Parr: The book-within-a-book in The Distant Hours feels so real, it makes me want to check the library catalog for it.

Lady Jane Grey: I really could have used an epilogue on this one!

Mary I: I wouldn't really burn Fifty Shades of Grey, I just think it was poorly written fan-fic that didn't really portray a particular lifestyle in the best way.

Elizabeth I: Princess Winter was one of the most intriguing characters in The Lunar Chronicles, and this book was the perfect ending to the series!

The Greek Gods Book Tag

Thank you to Amy at A Magical World of Words for tagging me!

Rules:

- Link back to Zuky HERE so she can read your posts!

- You can use your own graphics or copy Zuky's (I used Zuky's!)

- Tag however many people you want!

I don't think I can pick a favorite book, but this is one of them!  Interesting family dynamics in this story, to say the least!

I think we can all agree that Katniss is pretty badass - she's smart, she's resourceful, she's killer with a bow and arrow - and she doesn't need magic to do it.

This one really stood out to me in 2018 - sometimes in debuts, the author hasn't quite found their stride yet, but the writing in Something in the Water was pretty superb!

I know I mention this book a lot, but it is beyond fantastic!

If you enjoy sweet love stories and charming characters, you'll love this one as much as I did.

I would never say that a book shouldn't exist, but this book really ruined the series for me!

Dr. Paul Kalanithi started writing this book as he was dying from lung cancer and passed away before he could finish.  His writing is honest and touching, and I think it's groundbreaking in the sense that he was able to tell his story as it was happening.

Emma Mills has the best covers, and I just love the colors and swirls and texture of this one!

This story about 1950s Houston socialites was almost 400 pages, but it felt like nothing happened!  The pacing was so sloooooow.

This story about an out-of-control teenager attending a wilderness therapy camp kept me glued to the pages!

Cake Flavored Books Tag

I came across this adorable book tag over on Paper Fury all about cake and books, originally from #bookstagram at #cakeflavoredbooks.  I knew I had to do it - who doesn't love cake?

Chocolate cake: a dark book you absolutely love.  I don't know that I read a ton of "dark" books, but I enjoyed this Little Mermaid retelling that didn't shy away from the gritty and emotional.

Vanilla cake: a light read.  This whole series is just light and fun and perfect for beach reading!

Red velvet: a book that gave you mixed emotions.  There were things I liked about this story, but it was hard to get over the unethical romance at the center of the book and the cheesy ending.

Cheescake: a book you would recommend to anyone.  I just love this book - it has beautiful writing, great characters, and MAGIC!

Coffee cake: a book you started but never finished.  This is just one of my recent DNFs.  I couldn't get past the ridiculous drama and pedestrian writing.

Carrot cake: a book with great writing.  This book is so beautifully written, you'll forget you're reading an end-of-the-world story.

Tiramisu: a book that left you wanting more.  I thought this book was super-cute and had a good message, but I thought the author missed a lot of opportunities to flesh out the story.

Cupcakes: a series with 4+ books.  There are a few long series that I make sure to keep up with, and Outlander is one of them.  Long books, but really worth the time!

Fruit cake: a book that wasn't what you anticipated.  I love wartime novels, but this novel was so different from what I was expecting after reading the synopsis, and unfortunately I was disappointed.
