Quotables #11

Why it speaks to me:  Ugh, how true is this??  It is SO HARD to make friends as an adult - like, where do you meet people?  How do you talk to them?  I just assume I'm too boring and dorky and no one will like me anyway!

Why it speaks to me:  I know this isn't exactly what Riggs is saying, but this quote reminded me that in this world of social media perfection and jealousy, it's important to remember that the grass is not always greener on the other side of the fence.  It's so easy to look at what others have that you don't, but we have to remember all the things that make our own lives unique and amazing.

Why it speaks to me: It's so amazing to think that as we're reading our favorite books, we are reminded that someone actually wrote this, they came up with these characters, and stories, and far-away lands.  They poured their heart and soul into creating this book for someone like us to read and enjoy.  And it really is joy to be able to read a beautifully-written book, especially at a time in our life when we really need it.

Which of these is your favorite?

  2. I love the second quote. Even when someone thinks their life in mundane, they should remember there is something special about everyone and there are parts of everyone's life that someone else would think is incredible.

  3. I'm in my 20s and I have a hard time making friends AND being an adult. How does one even adult anyway, lol.

I also agree with your thoughts on Ransom Riggs's quote. Frequently we forget that we have a life OUTSIDE of social media and the internet - because we're a global village it's so easy to save time commuting from place to place and just speak to each other within seconds rather than in the face.

    1. LOL, I'm a bit older than you and I still don't know how to adult!

      I agree!

  4. I relate to that first quote so much. I find it nearly impossible to make new friends now. It's always so awkward.

  5. These are great quotes but I think my favorite is the Ransom Riggs one. It's just a great reminder to be mindful and really see what is around us. Thanks for sharing these!

  7. What a wonderful post. I totally agree with everything you said. It is hard as an adult to make friends, I struggled so much when I relocated to Portland in my thirties, I felt so lost. My dad always told me that your family will be your best friends, and he was so right. Thanks for sharing this today, Angela.

    1. Thank you, Heidi! I know, I am very lucky to be so close to my sister, I don't know what I would do without her!

      You're very welcome!

  8. The further you get from your teens, the harder it is to make friends. I heard you are supposed to be able to make friends with other moms, when your kids are young, but I was much younger than the other moms. So, yeah, I totally relate to that quote.

    1. I don't even have that option right now! I should probably get out and volunteer more.

  9. I like that Ransom Riggs quote because it make you think that maybe your own life is extra special, you just haven't seen it yet.

  10. I loved all of these quotes, but I feel like I particularly relate to the first one. I was always quite shy, so had a hard time making friends anyway, and it just gets harder as you get older, because as you say, where do you even meet people?

    1. I don't know where all the people are. I think maybe volunteering would be a good way to meet people? At least then you already know you have something in common.
