2020 Goals

I don't want to go too crazy setting goals for 2020, but there are a few things I'd like to accomplish this year!

Reading

  • Reread more.  I love to reread, but it's really fallen by the wayside since I started blogging.  Not only will I get to revisit my favorite stories, but it will also serve the dual purpose of helping me weed through my shelves and get rid of books I'm no longer interested in.
  • Reread the Harry Potter series.  This kind of goes along with the first one, but I know I won't be giving these books away!  It's been so long since I read the series.
  • Make a dent in the unread physical books on my shelf.  This is a goal I'm carrying over from last year.  I tend to overlook these books in favor of my library books, but I really want to do better, because they are starting to pile up!
  • Attend at least 2 bookish events.  I've been fortunate enough to meet and/or hear some amazing authors speak in the last couple years, and these have been wonderful experiences.

Blogging

  • Respond to comments faster.  I really appreciate everyone's comments and thoughts on my posts and so, for my own peace of mind, I want to get in a better habit of replying faster.
  • Get ahead on my book reviews.  When I first started blogging, I was really good about blogging ahead - I always had a huge cache of posts ready to go.  Lately, though, not so much.  Even though I only post reviews once a week, I forever seem to be scrambling to get one up.  I need to come up with a better system - either reviewing books more quickly after I read them, or reviewing more books, or something.
  • Build up my #bookstagram account.  I've noticed lately that lots of bloggers are migrating to Instagram over traditional blogging.  I don't plan on doing that, but I do want to grow my Instagram account.  I love taking and sharing pictures and Instagram can be more conducive to that.  I've started participating in photo challenges, which really helps drive my content and introduce me to more #bookstagrammers.  If we're not already, let's be friends!

Life

  • Get new passports.  This really shouldn't be a year-long goal, but Tom and I can be really bad procrastinators.  I need to renew my passport (which I never even updated when we got married over 6 years ago, oops!) and Tom needs to get his first passport ever, since our goal is to travel somewhere outside the United States this year for the first time together.
  • Drink more water.  Enough said.
  • Run a 5k.  In the last few months, my husband has really gotten into a good exercise and diet routine and it has inspired me to do better.  I thought doing a 5k would be a fun goal to work towards (at least, in my head it sounds good, I've never been a runner!).
  • Make 100 blankets for Project Linus.  This total is actually slightly less than I did in 2019, but since coming on as Assistant Coordinator for our chapter, I have other responsibilities, like putting together our newsletter and other literature and helping out with events.

Do you have any goals for 2020?

  1. Oh, I hear you on bookstagram. The pics there are so gorgeous and mine always seem to pale in comparison. I think not to be too hard on myself if I don't answer everyone's comments asap, and try to focus on doing more on quality over quantity. I realised, I don't want to be the same person I was last year, doing the same things -- it's time to change things up -- small or big.

  2. Rereading is something I always mean to do more. There are so many books I'd like to experience again. The times I have reread have been wonderful so I don't know why I don't do more of it.

Funnily enough, my passport renewal paperwork is sitting right here on my desk (and has been for about a month). I need to go get the photo taken and just haven't made the time yet. Thanks for the reminder! :)

  3. These are awesome goals. I hear you about Bookstagram. I really don't know what I am doing there b/c it's a bit of books, a bit of my kids, a bit of other stuff. I really should probably streamline it, but oh well. I'm glad we are friends on Instagram. I am currently re-reading the HP series with my son - it's so much fun to revisit it all and I'm catching some things that I didn't notice the first time around. Good luck with your 2020 goals!

    1. I'm glad we're IG friends, too! I know, I made the decision to not have a separate account for the blog, so now it's just a little bit of everything and I don't know if that's hindering my growth. I love rereading HP because I forget how funny it can be sometimes.

  4. You have some fantastic goals! I am definitely guilty of not responding to comments quickly. I look forward to reading your posts this year! :)

  5. Good luck! I’d love to reread a few series this year. I also need to get better at dealing with comments. I’m busy, and the comments suffer for it.

    1. I know, replying to comments always seems to be the lowest priority, unfortunately.

  6. Great goals! Well-rounded and very do-able, which is probably half the battle!

  7. These goals do sound reasonable... good luck!

  8. Rereading is something I need to do. There are a couple of series that have finished but it's been so long since I read the books that I think I would be lost in the final book. Our library is much bigger here in Florida than where we lived in Tennessee so they have complete series. Good luck on your goals!

  9. I don't drink enough, but I try to drink more on weekends, when it feasible. You go train for that 5K. Good for you! Let me know, when I need to be cheering for you. I used to write reviews right after I finished a book, but lately, I am trying to write them all each weekend. It's draining. I need to get ahead like you.

    1. Aww, thanks, Sam! Haha, yeah, I think getting ahead on reviews is something we all struggle with!

  10. I'm writing up a post for my 2020 goals right now too and we share several, especially working on the bookstagram account and trying to blog ahead more. I'm always scrambling too and really need to be better so that I'm less stressed. I'm also right there with you about drinking more water (as I sit here sipping a Diet Coke, oops).

  11. I reread ten books last year and every book was just so enjoyable. I hope you get to pick up plenty favorites throughout the year. Good luck with all your goals!

  12. all three of your blogging goals are huge for me. I used to be a lot better at replying to comments, that's something I want to work on. Same with having some reviews ready to go. I've been slacking on that, although some of it is I've been slumpy with the reading lately. Re- reading more is another one...

    1. Yeah, I think a lot of us bloggers struggle with the same things! Ugh, yes, a reading slump doesn't help...

  13. Your goals are so understandable! I recently finished reading all the HP books. I hope you'll have as much fun as I did :)

Only REAL goal I have is to lose some weight and just enjoy life :)

  14. I think rereading is such a lovely goal! I just spent most of December rereading old favorites and really enjoyed it so I should do it more often :) And I'm also hoping to comment back faster and get some more posts written in advance, but I'm still working out the best way haha :) Good luck with all your goals!

  15. These are great goals! I still have a couple years before I have to renew my passport. My kids' passports expired... my daughter turns 18 this year, so it would be silly to get her another passport now since minors' passports expire in 5 years, but if we wait another six months she can get a passport for 10 years.

  16. A varied collection of goals for the new year, and ones I wish you luck with achieving.

I think it is great to focus a little on rereading; there is great comfort in returning to tried & true favourites.

  17. funny you mentioned that Angela because I have noticed that about bookstagram too! I see many of us more active there than on our blog. I guess it's easier. I'm following you now on Bookstagram! :)

  18. These are some great goals, so best of luck with them! :)
I definitely feel like rereading fell by the wayside for me too when I started blogging, so I'd like to do more of that soon. I did reread the Harry Potter series a while back though, and it was so great to revisit those books!

  20. I love the idea of getting ahead on posts! I've only had very brief periods where I've been posting more than a few days in advance since I started blogging 8 years ago, but they were very nice :)

  21. Ahh best of luck for all of your goals! I kind of want to re-read more books as well, I've been neglecting that for the past couple of years unfortunately. BEst of luck for all of your goals! :)
