2020 Reading Challenge Sign-Ups

I love a good reading challenge, especially one that spans the entire year and gives me more time to read!  This year, I'm signing up for three challenges - two I've done in the past and enjoyed and one new to me!

The 2020 Audiobook Challenge is hosted by Hot Listens and Caffeinated Reviewer.  The challenge runs all year and pretty much anything counts as long as it's in audio format - you can get all the details here.  Since I listened to so many audiobooks last year, I thought this would be a great challenge to participate in and see if I can beat last year's total of 26 audiobooks.  I'm aiming for the Binge Listener achievement level, which is 20-30 books.

I had a great time doing the Retellings Reading Challenge hosted by Tracy at Cornerfolds last year, so I'm definitely doing that one again!  You can get all the details here.   I'm going to aim for the Elemental Witch level, which is 11-15 retellings.  There's also a fun Bingo element, here's the card:

The last challenge I'm going to join is Beat the Backlist, hosted by Austine at NovelKnight; you can get all the details here, but basically any book published in 2019 or earlier counts.  I read a lot of backlist books and have participated for a couple years now, so this one is a given!  This year I'm not going to set a TBR at the beginning, but I will try to aim for at least 60 books.  I'm also going to play for Team Borrowers, since I practically live at my library!

What challenges are you going to do this year?

  1. I love the idea of the retelling challenge, but there aren't a plethora of retellings in contemporary, and they all seem to be Jane Austen retellings when I do track some down. Good luck with your challenges!

    1. Thanks, Sam! Although I enjoy Jane Austen retellings, I've found quite a few that have different inspirations!

  2. I love a good reading challenge! I will have to check out the audio book one. I definitely want to listen to more books this year --- learning to love audio books, especially when driving, exercising, etc.

  3. I try every year to read more and more from my backlist (and my own bookshelves/Kindle) so the Beat the Backlist Challenge sounds like a good one. Good luck with all of these, Rachel!

  6. Good luck with all of your challenges! So far I've only committed to the Beat the Backlist challenge but I may add one or two more. I'm being indecisive, lol.

  11. I no longer participate in Challenges, besides The Classics Club, but I do listen to a lot of audiobooks. 28 last year. Have fun!

  12. I'm not a huge fan of retellings, unless it's loosely based and really obscure (like The Girl in Red). A lot of people seem to participate in it every year, and I wish you luck! Beat the Backlist is one of my favorites, since I'm always trying to narrow down the unread books on my shelves and TBR. The Audiobook Challenge is another one I'm doing again this year!

May we read ALL the books in 2020! <3

  15. Ah best of luck with these challenges, Angela! I haven't joined any challenges this year so far, but... I really should read more backlist titles ahha :)

  16. Ooh! I can't wait to see your book retellings reviews. I love any type of retelling but fairy tale ones are the best!
You're aiming for a lot of backlists! I think I put myself as wanting to read 15 of my oldest books on my Goodreads list. Plus I want to read 12 books that are on my shelf. And 12 backlisted NetGalley books as goals I want to achieve this year.
The only challenge I am participating in is Finishing the Series. I really want to finish some very old series as well as if I start a series that is complete - I want to finish it. Good luck with all your challenges!

    1. Thanks, Adriana, and good luck on your goals as well! I tend to read a lot of backlist, so I figured that number was good, even though it was high! I need to read more from my own shelves, too!
