Top Ten Tuesday: Unpopular Bookish Opinions

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl.  This week's topic is unpopular bookish opinions.  Oh, boy, here we go...

  1. I think it's ok to read the last page of a book first.  Some people don't mind spoilers, and I'm one of them!  Sometimes I know I'm not going to finish a book, but I still want to know how it ends, which kind of leads to...
  2. DNFing is a good thing!  Some readers need to see a book through once they've started (my sister used to be one of them), and that's fine!  But for me, if I'm not enjoying a book, I stop reading it.  No sense in forcing myself to finish something, which leads me to...
  3. I DNFed This Savage Song.  This duology is so beloved around the blogosphere, but just a couple chapters in, I knew it wasn't the book for me.
  4. I also didn't finish The Book Thief.  Just... no.
  5. I hated The Fault in Our Stars...
  6.  I also didn't really like Six of Crows or Red Rising.  Hmm, I seem to have a bad habit of disliking really hyped and highly-rated books!
  7. Other than two e-books I read a couple months ago, I read exclusively paper books.  I can totally see all the good things about e-readers, I just don't feel a pull to start using one more.
  8. I've never read Sarah J. Maas, and I have no plans to.
  9. I was really disappointed by Caraval and Legendary... but I might read Finale just to see how the series ends.

What are some of your unpopular bookish opinions?  Do we have any in common?

  1. Yes to DNfing - I'm a big DNFer. Why suffer through a book you aren't enjoying?!

  2. I used to feel bad about DNFing books, but not anymore. There are tons of books in the world. I don’t need to waste my time on a boring one.

  3. I definitely DNF now, too many other good books to try! I love my e-reader and actually need it, as my library has a fair amount of great books only available as ebooks. I would miss out on too much!

    1. Yes, absolutely, if I needed to use an ereader for that reason, I would definitely be more open to it. My library is pretty good about having physical copies!

  4. Well... I'm not with you on reading the last page (but sometimes I skip to the author's notes before I'm finished reading).

  5. I also hated The Fault In Our Stars...ugh, that one was just not for me :(

  6. Great list! I'm not a fan of Victoria Schwab or Sarah J. Maas's books either, and I will pretty much always DNF a book I'm not enjoying - life's too short to read books I'm not enjoying!

  7. I completely agree with #1 and #2. I do love my e-books though and read almost exclusively that way these days. Old eyes, you know. Ha!

    1. Ha! Well, I'm not getting any younger, so maybe ebooks are in my future!

  8. I read the end of a book first to decide if it's worth my time. I am trying to get better at DNF'ing books that I don't like, but it just makes me feel so guilty.

    1. I used to feel guilty, too, especially for books I had spent money on, but since I get most of my books from the library, I don't feel bad anymore!

  9. I've totally learned to embrace DNFing lately! It's so much easier to pick up a book knowing that you don't need to finish if it's not working for you. I haven't read any Sarah J. Maas books, either, although I do plan on giving it a go.

    Here's my TTT post.

    1. I'm so glad to hear that DNFing is becoming way more common!

  10. Yes, DNFing definitely is a good thing.

  11. I didn't care much for The Fault in Our Stars either. Or the rash of books that were similar that followed afterwards. In fact, another unpopular opinion is that I liked Me, Earl and the Dying Girl much better.

  12. I think DNFing is a good thing too. It's good to know what works for you when it comes to books and waht doesn't. I never read the second novel in the This Savage Song duology and I don't think I ever will.

  13. I liked The Fault in Our Stars but there are several other books of his that I don't really care for at all.

    1. I haven't read any of his other books, but based on my experience with that one, I probably won't.

  14. I'm not as against spoilers as a lot of people either. I mean I don't seek them out but if I get spoiled- it's not the end of the world necessarily. Heck sometimes I DO seek out spoilers for movies, if it's something I'm waffling on whether to see or get excited about.

Glad I'm not the only one who didn't like Six of crows.

    1. I'm kind of surprised that you didn't like Six of Crows, but I'm glad to be in that club with you!

Sometimes I seek out movie spoilers, too, especially for movies I might not see or it's just been so hyped, I need to know what everyone is raving about. Also, so I have an explanation of what's going on, in case it's a movie I know I'm going to be confused by.

    1. Haha, I've had a discussion post in the past about it, and a lot of people were shocked by the confession!

  16. I am all about DNFing a book I am not enjoying. Reading is what I do for entertainment. Why would I push through something that isn't working for me? Yes. I'm a quitter.

    1. Haha, I'm definitely a quitter, too, and proud of it!

  17. I've googled for spoilers before. Not always, but sometimes.

  18. Oh I definitely agree that it's ok to read the last page of a book first, I just would never do it lol. But everyone should read however they enjoy reading! I do that with trilogies sometimes too. I don't really care for the first two that much, but at that point I feel like I might as just read the last one to see how it ends lol.

    1. Haha, yes about trilogies, and I also feel like I've invested the time, so I want some sort of payoff.

  19. I didn't DNF, but I definitely wasn't as enamored with The Book Thief as everyone else in the world seems to be. And I loved Caraval, but then I was really disappointed with Legendary. I thought Finale was great, though.

  20. I always look up spoilers (on Goodreads or somewhere) on Nicolas Sparks' novels because I'll only read those that have a happy end. ;) I don't care for e-reading (though I do read an e-book when I have too - like review copies I'm sent), and 100% believe DNF-ing is something readers should be okay with. There's too many awesome books to read without struggling through one we don't care for. :)

Thanks for visiting Finding Wonderland last week; apologies it took me so long to visit here.

  22. I have not read anything by Sarah J. Maas either. I did enjoy Caraval and have Legendary and Finale on audio to finish the series up ad I just enjoyed it that much. I did not read The Book Thief and don't plan on it. I enjoy ebooks but really like paper better especially hardback. Those are my favorites! =)
