Thankfully, it didn't rain as much during June as it did during May, but unfortunately summer has definitely descended and it is HOT. Much hotter than normal at this time of year. All I want to do is sit in air conditioning and read a book!
June was a fairly calm and quiet month, but we did get to do some fun things! Earlier in the month, we took a ride down to Winterthur in Delaware and saw the Costuming The Crown exhibit - a post about our trip is linked below! We saw Men in Black International, and I'll be honest, I only sat through it for Chris Hemsworth.
Tom and I ordered a new TV stand for the living room, and I'm proud to say we didn't kill each other putting it together! I think that's kind of a rite of passage of any relationship or marriage - when you can work together and follow those impossible instructions without going ballistic on each other!
We just started summer hours at work, which means we work late Monday through Thursday in exchange for a half day on Fridays. It's only been one week so far and although it was nice getting out early on Friday, I don't know that it's worth getting home so late the rest of the week. We'll see, though!
The last weekend of the month, we went to a birthday party for one of our nephews and also checked out a baseball game at our local minor league stadium.

How was your June? What was your favorite book? Any plans for the 4th of July (if you celebrate)?
I'm looking forward to seeing Men In Black International, but it doesn't look like an amazing movie anyway ;) I just love Tessa Thompson and Chris Hemsworth, so I'll watch it for them!
ReplyDeleteWow you read a lot this month. Well done!
Hope it cools down soon :)
Thanks, Amy! Hope you enjoy MIB, I did enjoy seeing Chris and Tessa together again!
DeleteYou had an awesome month! I'm interested in your thoughts on Alison Weir's novels. I have read a few of hers in the past and really enjoyed them! I definitely didn't read enough in June. I hope to remedy that in July! I look forward to more of your reviews in July!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Christina! I'm enjoying the new Queens series by Weir, although the books are quite long! I don't know that they necessarily tell me anything new, but they are fun!
DeleteIt’s hot here, too. It’s been in the 90s for the last few days, which I hate because I can’t function in the heat. I melt. Congrats on getting so many books read. Happy July!
ReplyDeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Thanks, Aj! I'm definitely not a fan of hot weather, either. I get very cranky!
DeleteJune went by so fast! I also read The Unhoneymooners and I thought it was great.
ReplyDeleteLoved that one! One of my top reads of the month.
DeleteThat is so many books! I'm in awe. And I laughed out loud regarding the TV stand...that really IS a good sign of one's relationship strength, isn't it? Especially when one person is an avid manual follower (my husband) and one just jumps in with the tools (that's me). Loved your month in review and look forward to reading some of the books you mentioned. Sorry it's so hot in NJ...perhaps you could crank the AC some evening and make a cup of tea/cocoa and read with a blanket, pretending it was autumn? ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks, J.P.! Ha, yes, I'm already dreaming of fall!
DeleteI am hopeless at putting things together, so I'm glad we were able to work together!
It's so hot around here too and while I'm happy for nice weather, I agree that I only want to stay inside where it's cooler and read a book :)
ReplyDeleteHaha, you are so right about the sign of a good relationship - putting together things without wanting to kill eachother ;)
I loved The Unhoneymooners this month too, it was so much fun!
Yes, a cool room and a good book sound so wonderful right now...
DeleteAnother great month.. I'm looking forward to your review of the Shergill Sisters :)
ReplyDeleteComing up on Friday!
DeleteI definitely agree about it being a rite of passage for a couple to put together furniture without it nearly coming to blows, lol. It has been really hot here too, although after the soggy, gross mess that was our summer, I'm ready for some sun and heat (at least until August when it gets really brutal here anyway, lol).
ReplyDeleteYes, I'm glad the rain has slowed down! Sun I can deal with, heat not so much!
DeleteLooks like a great month of reading! I've been hoping to pick up Alison Weir's book sometime, and The Last is one I've been really intrigued by! It was so hot in June, I am never ready for the heat. I'm not sure I'd enjoy getting home later, but that sounds like a really interesting concept! I hope you have a great July!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jordan! We had a super-hot June, I'm really not looking forward to two more months of this!
DeleteIt's been super hot here too and now we're mid 80's out for the next week, according to the forecast. Humid too- welcome to summer I guess. :)
ReplyDeleteI want to read The Last- it sounds so good!
I think you'd enjoy it!
DeleteI feel like the weather is just punking me - first non-stop rain, then right into scorching temps!
It's brutal today. July is trying to prove something here, I think. I just bought the ebook for A Prom to Remember (although I won a hard cover last year), and I am determined to read it. I think Sandy Hall is funny, so it should be pretty good for me.
ReplyDeleteA Prom to Remember was so adorable. I read another of her books and was kind of meh on it, but this was so fun! And the heat rolls on!
DeleteHaha! Congrats on getting the TV stand together! I know how challenging that can be. ;) I literally just got Dead Mountain (which I'd read half of a while back) and The Last also!
ReplyDeleteHope you enjoy both of them, Tracy!
DeleteThe Winterthur trip sounds lovely! And I enjoy how eclectic your book list is, with a variety of genres. I would like to read like that, but I have a tendency to binge one genre or even one author at a time, for weeks or months, before moving on to another. Blogging has changed my habits somewhat, but I still do the genre-bingeing thing sometimes; I just interject a few other books into it here and there.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I tend to go with whatever is available at the library, so it can get really varied!
DeleteI loved The Unhoneymooners! The Bathroom of Doom was my favorite part of the book! I laughed hysterically the entire time. It was such a fun read! We haven't celebrated the fourth of July in years, mostly because the kids have early bedtimes, and fireworks are a nuisance, haha. They traumatize my dogs and keep us up WAY later than we need to be. Especially since people start doing fireworks days before and continue doing them for days afterwards.
ReplyDeleteLindsi @ Do You Dog-ear? 💬
Yeah, we aren't big on 4th of July, either! We tend to go to bed pretty early, and I'm definitely not a fan of our neighbors shooting off their own fireworks!
DeleteYep, it is HOT this summer. Hahaha I'm glad you've reached such a pivotal milestone in your relationships with the tv stand assembly :-P I haven't seen the new MIB yet, but, to be honest, I wasn't ever too excited about it? The original was great, but that just makes me think nothing will ever quite live up to it.
ReplyDeleteI agree, I didn't have strong feelings either way about MIB, I could have waited for Netflix.
DeleteI had to have a good chuckle about you putting together your new TV unit. How true is that! When you work as a couple of DIY projects things can definitely get a little heated, especially when those instructions are so impossible!
ReplyDeleteHmm.. The summer work hours sound like they'll take a bit of getting used to. Yes, Friday afternoon off would be great though! But moving everything else on the weekday schedules out to maatch increased work hours must be tough.
Oooh - I'm going to check out what you thought of Sherwwod now!
Haha, yes, working together isn't always easy!
DeleteI'm still getting used to the work hours, it's hard getting home so late most nights!
Imagine being on a bus with no insulation. Yep, some of my days at work are incredibly hot while the others I am freezing. The humidity in Florida can be through the roof sometimes while other times it's raining cats and dogs.
ReplyDelete"We saw Men in Black International, and I'll be honest, I only sat through it for Chris Hemsworth." - Ha! My brothers and dad went to go see it and they liked it enough. I actually would have seen it for Tessa Thompson since I've seen her in a few films and she's a good actress.
Beautiful books! You are making me think of all the royalty based books I've still yet to read! As well as making me want to read an outdoorsy/adventure read.
Aww, thanks, Adriana! I still have a few more royalty ones I want to get to for your challenge.
