Month in Review: May 2022

May was a pretty busy month!  Tom and I went to the movie theater for the first time in months to see Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.  While not my favorite Marvel movie, I always enjoying seeing these on the big screen!  And all the cameos were really fun.  I celebrated my first Mother's Day, which was so special.  My cousin and his wife had a baby boy a few months before us, and we were finally able to get together to have the boys meet.  It was so cute, and really nice to catch up with my cousin's wife - it's comforting to relate to someone who's going through the exact same things as you!  We went to a birthday party for another set of niece and nephew at one of my brother's houses, and Henry got to meet a lot of family members!  We were planning to have some of my family over for a Memorial Day barbeque, but a couple days before, my stepmom texted that she tested positive for COVID.  Then my sister texted that her husband also tested positive and she was pretty sure she had it, too!  Turns out our niece and nephew also had it, so it's possible that someone at the birthday party was sick and maybe didn't know it.  It's crazy that they had all avoided it for over 2 years and were now getting it at the same time.  Aside from some allergy-like symptoms and fatigue, everyone is mostly doing ok, so we are thankful for that!  Only my mom and stepdad ended up coming over for the holiday, but we still had a good time.  Tom cooked and my mom and I planted some flowers.  Henry turned six months old at the end of the month!  I really can't believe it!  He started wearing a helmet this month to correct some asymmetry in his head shape and he's been in physical therapy for three months to help with his torticollis (basically, he was always looking to the left, so it caused a flat spot on his head).  He's doing really well with it and he's still hitting all his milestones.  He hasn't rolled over yet but is getting close (apparently there is a huge age range for rolling over, so I was a little overexcited last month!) and is also working on sitting up by himself.  We've introduced a few more foods and so far he has generally enjoyed everything (except the peas).

  1. I'm glad Henry is doing well! I don't remember how old Brooklyn was when she rolled over, but I saw her do it. My sister and I screamed so loud that we scared her. We never thought she'd roll over again. :) I hope you have a good June!

    1. Thanks, Aj! He keeps trying to roll over in his pack and play, which is probably not ideal since it's still at bassinet height!

  3. I still need to see dr. Strange. They are best on the big screen! And glad the Covid cases were mild. It's a bummer that it interfered with the holiday but at least cases were mild- although it's still no fun!

    1. I know, it's like, if they had to get it, it's almost better now with the less strong strain and the vaccines available to lessen the effects.

  4. How is Henry already 6 months?!?! How did that happen? Oh man. Buckle in! Wait till he starts sitting up and then crawling. It's all over then. haha. Enjoy this fun time with your little man. I can't wait to read Newport by Team W. I look forward to your thoughts on it. Oh, and all my extended family members caught COVID the past two weeks. I hope I am not next! Stay healthy!

  5. The good news about getting covid now versus the beginning of the pandemic is that we have more effective ways to treat it and many people are vaccinated and have mild cases (compared to those in early 2020). Sorry you didn't get to have your get-together, but I am glad everyone is doing ok. Such exciting times watching your baby grow up. (I'm not crying!)

    1. Exactly! I'm glad everyone seems to be doing well. It's just crazy to think about how much Henry has grown in just 6 months!

  6. I'm glad to hear that Henry is doing so well and meeting all of his milestones. That is wild that so many family members caught COVID at the same time. I hope their symptoms continue to be mild.

    1. Everyone seems to be doing well, so that's good. With babies and grandparents in the mix, we were all on edge for awhile.

  7. What's with babies and these helmets all of a sudden? You're the third person I've come across whose baby has to wear one. They all look very cute in their helmets I must say. Sounds like your little Henry is at a fun age where he's learning lots of new things!

Happy belated mother's day to you!

    1. I think it's because babies sleep on their backs these days, which causes a lot of flattening of their skulls!

  8. Happy first Mother's Day!!

Wyatt had torticullis as well. PT works! :)

And ugh, it seems like so many people are getting COVID right now that managed to avoid it for the past two years. Glad your family had a relatively mild case. :)

    1. Thank you! Yes, PT seems to be working well for Henry, although we are going much longer than I originally thought we would. COVID cases have been going up in our state, so I guess it was just a matter of time!

  9. Lots of people who have been avoiding Covid are getting it. With all the lax restrictions, it seems inevitable. I remember when my niblings were young, those peas smelled the worst, so I don't blame your little one for not liking it. Hope you have an enjoyable June!

    1. Yes, it's just a bummer that after 2 years of being so careful, it just took one time for everyone to get it. Haha, I actually thought the peas smelled pretty good!

  11. Sounds like a full - and mostly good - month. Sorry to hear that Covid is impacting your family, though. My older sister took a trip last month and came home testing positive. It hit her pretty hard but she's doing great now. How is Henry already 6 months old??! Wow!

    1. I'm glad your sister is doing better. One of my brothers went to FL last month and caught it there. I know, I am in shock that it has already been 6 months!

  12. Happy first Mother's Day!
Sorry to hear your family caught COVID, but gld to hear the symptoms have been mild. I've been hearing a lot of people lately - avoiding it for 2 years and then catching it now.
Hope you'll have a wonderful June!

  13. So fun that you had your first Monther's Day! :)

It's really weird, but over here all my relatives and friends got COVID in the last wave as well. I have not gotten it (yet?). And I'm the one that tests every week 3 times, because I'm a teacher... Still find it weird :)

    1. It was a very special day!

It is weird sometimes to think about who gets it and who doesn't. I mean, all three of us were at the party, too, and as far as we know, none of us got it. So maybe there was something else?
