Month in Review: May 2021

May turned out to be a pretty quiet month.  We celebrated Mother's Day at my mom's house and ordered in a late lunch.  Most of our month was taken up by house projects.  We had some more landscaping done and the top of our front stoop needed to be redone.  Of course, when they took the top off, it turned out to be a much bigger (and more expensive!) job than we anticipated!  So, it was several days of a lot of noise and dust, but it's all repaired now, which is good. We had a barbeque on Memorial Day and were able to have most of our family over.  Even though it rained the whole weekend and the actual day started out a little cloudy and windy, it turned out to be a beautiful day.  It was so nice to have everyone over - it's been so long!  Most of our families are vaccinated; Tom is also fully vaccinated, although I'm not yet.

  1. Nice on the family gatherings. We've yet to have *everyone* together. Just a few small get-togethers. I'm looking forward to the time when everyone is in the same place again! I keep considering This Time Next Year... haven't decided yet.

    1. It was good that we were able to have everyone outside; that was definitely a factor in how many people we were able to have over!

  3. So glad you were able to have family over. We did last month for an outdoor birthday party for my son and it was so nice to get together with people finally. You had a great reading month! I look forward to your thoughts on This Time Next Year --heard good things! I also liked The Girl in White Gloves...love Grace Kelly!

  4. I didn't do much the long weekend, but I did have plans for a cookout on Monday. I was pleased the rain stopped for the occasion. I hope you enjoy all the new home enhancements.

  5. Barbecues are nice, glad you had a good holiday! And it's always nice when the messy projects are done lol.

Bombay looks like an interesting read!

    1. Ugh, the porch was not a fun project, but at least we won't have to worry about it for a long time!

  6. I'm glad to hear you were able to spend the holiday with your family. I had hoped to do that but my mom and sister just got their first shots and we want to wait until they're fully vaccinated. Hopefully we can all get together for July 4th. Sorry to hear your landscaping project turned out to be so much more expensive. The joys of home ownership, lol.

    1. Yeah, I think pretty much everyone but me is fully vaccinated, so that was good!

Ugh, it's always something with a house!

  7. I've heard good things about Pride, Prejudice, and Other Flavors. I should do a readathon of P&P retellings, there are so many interesting ones out there. Hope you have a good June!

    1. I love P&P retellings, so I feel like I always have at least a couple on my TBR!

  8. I’m glad you were able to see your family! We had plans to have a BBQ on Memorial Day, but it rained all day, which sucked because I rarely get holidays off work. It was still nice to have the day off, though. I got to take a nap.

    1. Ugh, that stinks about the rain, but a day to just relax can be really nice, too!

  9. Isn't it lovely how you can do things with more people at the same time?! Yesterday I had dinner with 6 people for the first time in a year. My friend is going to marry so we celebrated with a fun puzzle walk and then dinner with the 6 of us. Yay!

  10. Glad to hear you got to have a barbecue get-together with the family, that must indeed have been so nice after all that time! I'm not vaccinated yet either, but most of my family already is as well, so it's nice that that's finally moving ahead so there's hope on the horizon again :)

  11. From watching HGTV all my life I could have predicted the extra cost lol. At least it was sorted out. That sucks that it cost more than expected though...
I'm curious what you thought about Straight On Till Morning. I don't like Peter Pan at all or even Wendy but I do love a good retelling. I want to read the Cinderella one of that series.

    1. Haha, yeah, in the back of my mind, I knew it was going to end up costing more! It was a bummer.

Straight on Til Morning was a fun story, but there are so many good Twisted Tales, if you weren't interested in Peter Pan you could easily skip it.
