Romance Quick Reviews

That Second Chance by Meghan Quinn (2019)

Griffin Knightly thinks that he and his brothers are cursed in love, so after the death of his wife, he's content to be alone - until Ren Winters arrives in town and he can't help but feel something for the new woman in his life.  Will he finally take a chance on love?  Not gonna lie, I 99% picked this book up because of the cover!  But, I also got a really great romance from it!  There's so much to love in this book - the small town setting where everyone really does know everyone else's business (and may exaggerate it from time to time), the strong dynamics of the Knightly family, and the friendship and growing attraction between Griffin and Ren.  The chemistry between the two really jumped off the page - it was both sweet and passionate.  I also really enjoyed that the story was not just about Griffin taking a chance on love, but also about Ren starting a new life for herself in Maine.  Although the dialogue was a little cheesy at times, I loved watching Griffin and Ren find their way to each other.  4 stars

Maverick Mogul (Billionaire Bachelors #7) by Lila Monroe (2022)

Charlie needs a no-strings-attached date to the 12 weddings he has this month; Grace decides to take him up on his offer while she's between jobs.  It was supposed to be pure fun, with no feelings - but will the romantic nights brew up something between the two?  Lila Monroe is my go-to rom-com author.  She always delivers in the best ways.  This book is part of a series but can easily be read as a standalone.  There's a bit of history between Charlie and Grace (they went to the same high school but were definitely not in the same circles), but that doesn't really affect their present situation too much.  Charlie has his reasons for wanting to keep things "fake" and surface-level, so he's as surprised as anyone when he starts having real feelings for Grace.  Grace is fun and funny, and I loved them together, especially how Charlie believed in Grace enough to push her to start her own business.  If you're looking for a fun, low-drama, bingeable, steamy romance, definitely try this book!  4 stars

  1. I love the Getting Lucky books, and I agree, I liked that both hero and heroine had a great story arc. My favorite part of that book was the introduction to the town. That place is amazing.

  2. I really enjoyed That Second Chance. Griff's background was so sad and I loved seeing the way he started to open up with Ren. I enjoyed the whole series but the second book (Rogan's story) was my favorite.

  5. Ah cheesy dialogue can totally work in a great romance, I think and The Second Chance sounds pretty good in that regard!
