2017 Blogging Goals Mid-Year Check-In

Since 2017 is half over (already???), I thought it would be a good time to check in on the blogging goals I set at the beginning of the year!

  1. Learn more about the technical side of creating a blog/website.  FAIL so far.  I changed the design slightly, but that's it!
  2. Create better graphics.  It's getting there!  I definitely work on the graphics more, but they could be better.  Tell me - what programs do you use to create your graphics?
  3. Come up with more/better discussion posts.  I've been posting at least 1 or 2 discussion posts a month, and I've gotten a pretty good response to them!  I have a list of potential topics, so we'll see how the rest of the year goes!  I've also come up with some new features, like Quotables.
  4. Have at least a month's worth of posts ready to go.  Doing good with this one so far.  I've kind of gotten into this routine where I have some sort of discussion on Mondays, memes on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, sometimes a random Thursday post if nothing on Tuesday, and book reviews on Fridays, and that's actually really helped streamline my posts and scheduling.
  5. Immerse myself more in the book blogging community.  So far, so good!  I've found a ton of new blogs to follow, I'm commenting on more posts, and I'm participating in a backlist reading challenge and a summer TBR challenge!
  6. Don't forget about my other passion, the outdoors.  This one has been difficult - the weather in the spring just wasn't cooperating, so we didn't do a lot of hiking.  I'm hoping the rest of the year will be better!
  7. Have fun!  Definitely having lots of fun!

Did you have any blogging goals for the year?  How are you doing on your goals?

  1. Looks like you're doing pretty well with your goals overall so far. Great job! I still need to work on my goal of doing more discussion posts. I've done a few, but not nearly as many as I had hoped.

    1. Thanks! The discussion posts are definitely the hardest to come up with consistently.

  2. These are awesome goals, Angela! I personally use Pixabay and Canva for my graphics - Pixabay's images are free for public use, and they're stunning. Canva is simple and free for the actual designing side of things.

I love your discussion posts <3 Looking forward to more!

    1. Thank you, Amy! I've started to use some images from Pixabay, but I still create the graphics myself in Powerpoint (OMG, I feel old and weird saying that!). I might try out Canva - I really do want the images to look better!

  4. It sounds like you're doing great with most of your goals! I also keep a schedule for my posts, it's changed somewhat throughout the two years that I've been blogging, but it really helps me stay organized and balanced.

  5. It looks like you're doing darn well to me! I do most of my graphics using PicMonkey and I've just started to play with Canva. I'm impressed that you can come up with a weekly discussion post. I find that the most difficult thing to do.

    1. Thank you! Yes, discussions are hard. I've been trying to mix it up between traditional discussions, original features, and lists/recommendations.

  6. Discussion posts are awesome but they can be tricky to come up with- at least for me! Sometimes I have lots of ideas and other times I gotta think a bit longer. :)

Sounds like you're doing pretty good though all around!
