Top Ten Tuesday: Can't Win 'Em All
Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and The Bookish. This week's topic is "books I loved less/more than I thought I would." It's unfortunate, but we're not going to like every book we read. Here's a list of books that I sadly did not love as much as I thought I would, including a few DNFs!

In Twenty Years was so disappointing. I thought about DNFing but finished. Wished I would have DNFed!!!I didn't enjoy The Girls in the Garden as much as I would have thought either. Great list!
ReplyDeleteI wish I had DNFed In Twenty Years, too! I did DNF Girls in the Garden after only like 50 pages.
DeleteI'm with you on The Girls in the Garden! I couldn't even finish it. I loved Tell the Wolves I'm Home and Rules of Civility, though. We're all different!
ReplyDeleteI couldn't finish Girls in the Garden, either!
DeleteI've never read the fault in our stars but I read Paper Towns by John Green and didn't really care for that one at all. Great list!
ReplyDeleteThanks! The Fault in our Stars has kind of soured me on John Green, not sure if I will read anything else by him!
DeleteI know I won't like Victoria--I'm a huge reader of Royal history. I haven't watched the show either. I disliked another of her books, too-- American Heiress which was riddled with crazy stuff/errors. I write historical fiction so I'm preparing for people to hate and criticize me as harshly as I do some writers!! lol

I haven't really liked any of Daisy Goodwin's other books, but I wanted to give this one a chance because I liked the subject matter.
DeleteGood luck with your book! I'm sure historical fiction is hard to write, trying to find a balance between accuracy and entertainment.
totally agree with you on The Girls in the Garden! My TTT
ReplyDeleteYes, it really sounded like something I would like, but something about the writing style just didn't work for me, I didn't even finish it!
DeleteI was also not keen on TFIOS, but I didn't really think I'd like it much in the first place, I just wanted to see what the hype was all about!
ReplyDeleteMy TTT: https://jjbookblog.wordpress.com/2017/02/21/top-ten-tuesday-97/
I also wanted to read it because I felt like the only person who hadn't. Because it had such great reviews, I assumed I would like it, but no!
DeleteTotally understand how TFIOS could end up on a list like this. Super hyped/popular books are so hard to live up to - and the hypey ness doesn't really account for personal taste. What about TFIOS did you not enjoy?
ReplyDeleteI didn't think the teenagers acted like teenagers - they talked like pretentious adults. I also didn't really like the way Hazel inserted herself into Gus's life when it felt uncomfortable for his family. I just wanted her to give them their space; she didn't know him for that long and they were losing their son/brother.
DeleteYikes, based on your post and all of the comments, I think I'll be tossing The Girls in the Garden off my TBR.
ReplyDeleteYou never know, you might like it!
DeleteI didn't enjoy The Fault in Our Stars at all. I seem to have a problem with John Green's books because, even though every seems to love them, I couldn't, for the life of me, enjoy any of them. And I actually DNFed Dorothy Must Die, even though I'm a huge fan of re-tellings. Such a slow book. You can check out my list here: http://bookladysreviews.blogspot.gr/2017/02/top-ten-books-i-thought-i-would-like.html

I've only read the one John Green book, but I probably won't read any more. It just wasn't my style. I also DNFed Dorothy Must Die. I so wanted to like it, because I love The Wizard of Oz, but it just felt like it was trying way too hard to be cool, with all the cursing and everything. I don't mind cursing, but it was too gratuitous.
DeleteDorothy Must Die wasn't great for me either. It didn't even get interesting to me until the very end-- so I decided not to continue with the series. Bummer about TFIOS-- I really loved that one.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't even finish Dorothy Must Die, and I was so disappointed in that!
DeleteI wasn't a big fan of Dorothy Must Die. I was a little disappointed!
ReplyDeleteI know, I love the idea behind the story, but the execution didn't work for me.
DeleteI was so close to adding Dorothy Must Die to my list as well.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my blog earlier.
It was a DNF for me!
