2018 Nonfiction Reading Challenge Sign-Up and TBR

After having a lot of fun participating in Nonfiction November last year, I set a goal for myself of reading more nonfiction in 2018, specifically at least one book per month.  The Nonfiction Reading Challenge hosted by Katie at Doing Dewey is the perfect fit to help me reach my goal!  The rules of the challenge are pretty flexible - participants set their own reading goals, and there will be Twitter chats and quarterly group reads throughout the year (all optional!).  My plan is to read at least 12 nonfiction books this year.  Here is my tentative TBR for this challenge:

  1. Oddly enough, I don't read much non-fiction. I think it is because when I was programming and teaching, I always had to read professional texts. Now, I just want escape. I did read Hidden Figures last year. There were parts that were so inspirational, there were tears in my eyes, but it's also very technical. Good luck with your challenge!

    1. I know, when I was in college, I did enough reading about history, so for a long time I didn't read a lot of nonfiction. I've only gotten back into it a little recently.

  2. Love this challenge. I have Sisters First on my TBR too. I tried and didn't finish The Girls of Atomic City but I did audio. Hope you like it more. Good luck!

    1. Thanks, Grace! I'm hoping to get Sisters First soon, I'm still a few places down on the library hold list!

  3. Ooh, I haven't come across this challenge before! I love taking part in Non-Fiction November but I need to encourage myself to read more non-fiction throughout the year as I have so many amazing sounding books waiting on my TBR; I'd really like to read Hidden Figures, too. I think I'll have to join in - thanks for bringing this to my attention!

  5. Good luck! I’m also (hopefully) going to be reading a lot of nonfiction this year. Some of your TBR books are on my TBR.

  7. I should do this challenge! I never read nonfiction, and that's something I'm trying to change. I will say I tried reading Hidden Figures and just couldn't get into it-- though I loved the movie!

    1. I think there's still time to sign up! I have heard that Hidden Figures (the book) gets very dense at times, so I'll have to watch out for that. I loved the movie, too!

  8. This sounds like a great challenge! I really like non-fiction (especially memoirs) but I just never get around to reading it. Maybe I'll have to do this challenge in 2019! Anyhow, I'll be curious to hear your thoughts on Hidden Figures and Diana. Good luck! :)

  9. Ooh, these all seem like great picks! I love nonfiction about history, especially explorers and women in history, so most of the books I've not read on your list are on my to-read list as well. Hedy's Folly wasn't on my to-read list, but I've only recently heard of Hedy Lamar as all these great collections of mini-bios about female scientists have been being published, so I'd definitely like to learn more about her.

    1. I actually heard about Hedy Lamar on a TV show, and I was like, hmm, I should learn more about her!
