August was a busy month! I went to the office one day to have my annual review, which thankfully went very well! My sister threw a belated birthday party for our niece (her birthday is in January, but it's much more fun to have a pool party!), so that was a fun day. Henry has another tooth coming in, right next to the other one. And we went on our first family vacation! My dad and stepmom rented a house right on the beach in Virginia Beach and my sister, 3 of my 4 brothers, and all their families headed down for a week. The cousins had so much fun hanging out together and there was lots of laughter and smiles and noise! We took Henry to the aquarium and zoo for the first time and also spent a morning walking on the boardwalk and seeing the King Neptune statue, among other art installations. Although he wasn't a fan of putting his feet in the ocean, Henry enjoyed sitting on the beach and playing with his Tupperware of water. He also tried to eat the sand many times, which wasn't good! We had a local photographer come out to the house to take some updated family photos on the beach, so I'm excited to see how those turn out. At the very end of the month, my sister and I attended a bookish event, Taylor Jenkins Reid talking about her new book, in-person! I feel like she doesn't come to the east coast often, so when this event was added a couple weeks ago, we jumped at the chance. She actually contracted COVID a few days before the event but thankfully tested negative the day before and was feeling better, so the event went on! Taylor was so wonderful to listen to - she's charming and funny - it was a great night!

That's great you were able to get away and enjoy the beach for a bit. I remember the stage of eating sand.....pretty soon he'll be running away from you on the beach and running into the ocean! I don't know which stage is worse, but one day you'll sit back in your beach chair with a book. haha. That's awesome about the TJR event. So fun! I am jealous. I can't believe August is over! I love that you are reading the Bridgerton books now. Did you watch the show yet?
ReplyDeleteI know, I'm already scared for the days when he can outrun me! I've seen the first season of Bridgerton and am working on the second!
DeleteSuch a great month but I am ready for fall!
ReplyDeleteSame!
DeleteThe family vacation sounds wonderful. And I'm envious that you were able to attend the Taylor Jenkins Reid event. How great to hear her talk about the new book.
ReplyDeleteIt really was a great vacation! It was so amazing to see/hear TJR in person!
DeleteI didn't realize how big your family was. It's you, your twin, and 4 brothers? Wow! How wonderful that so many of you could gather for your vacation. We did that back when I was younger, but now I only see my extended family at funerals (YIKES!)
ReplyDeleteYes, we are a big blended family! It can be so hard to get everyone together!
DeleteHow lovely that you got to do all these fun things. Beach pictures must come out beautiful, one way or another they always do! So cool that you got to meat TJR as well! I did see that she caught COVID on Insta, but glad you got to meet her!
ReplyDeleteYes, she tested positive for COVID a few days before the event, so I was worried it was going to be cancelled, but thankfully, she recovered in time!
DeleteLooks like you had a great August! Glad you had a nice vacation with the family and your annual review went well. And the TJR event sounds amazing too. Hope you'll have a great September!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Lindsey!
DeleteSounds like a wonderful beach vacation (aside from the sand-eating!) We spent a few family vacations at Virginia Beach with my husband's side of the family, years ago when all our kids were younger. It was a lot of fun, even if I'm not much of a beach person. (I burn really easily.)
ReplyDeleteAnd it looks like you had a terrific reading month as well! Your books look interesting, and it's always exciting to meet a favorite author.
We are not huge beach people either (my husband and I), but we wouldn't have missed this trip for the world!
DeleteSounds like a wonderful vacation! And an awesome author event too. I think she's be neat to meet.
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a nice Labor Day!!!
Thanks, Greg! It was a fantastic trip.
DeleteCongrats on your positive annual review! Those new family photos sound like they are going to be amazing. Just Haven't Met You Yet looks like a cute read. Hope you have a wonderful September!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Alicia! I'm really excited to see how the photos turn out. The photographer was so great!
