The Blog Squad Tag

If you're not familiar with these ladies, the Blog Squad consists of Uma at Books.Bags.Burgers, Di at Book Reviews by Di, and Amy at A Magical World of Words - they collaborate on a series of fun discussion posts about book blogging.  Last week they created their own book tag (I've linked to each of their posts) and since I had such fun reading their answers, I wanted to take part, too!

Is there a particular blogger who inspires you?

Oh, man, just one??  I've a relatively new blogger, so pretty much everyone inspires me!  Bloggers who have been at it for years and other newbies like me - I can learn something from everyone.  I think we all have a unique perspective, and so mostly I've been inspired to just be myself!

What is your blog's niche?

I'm not sure if I really have one yet.  I broadly focus on adult fiction, but I love and talk about many genres, and I also toss in some posts about my other interests, particularly hiking.  Maybe someday I'll narrow down the focus a bit, but I like being able to talk about whatever I want!

What is your top bookish confession?

I often read the last page or two of a book first!  #sorrynotsorry

What are your top three bookish pet peeves?

1. Synopses that don't give an accurate representation of what the book is really about.  There are fewer things worse than starting a book thinking it's about one thing, and then getting hit with something completely different.
2. Quick or overly convenient endings.  If I'm going to spend hours reading a book, I want a good ending!
3. Paragraphs and chapters that are too long.  I tend to skim long paragraphs and I always check how long a chapter is before I start reading it - I hate stopping in the middle!

Name three books you would recommend to anyone.

The Distant Hours by Kate Morton - I get lost in Kate Morton's books; they're like entering another world.  This one is about three sisters who live in an English castle, surrounded by their secrets.

Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte - It's a classic but it's still very readable.

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern - Beautiful writing, gorgeous settings, and magic make this one of my favorite books.

Thank you to the Blog Squad for coming up with this great tag!

  1. You are one of those crazy people who reads the end of the book first!!! Crazy lady lol. I still need to read Kate Morton but I want to. Loved the Night Circus!

    1. Yep, I'm one of *those* people! I try not to do it for every book, though.

  2. Loved the Night Circus, I wish someone would make it into a movie. Just bought a Kate Morton book for a friend - she said she loves mysteries and is very much looking forward to reading!

    1. That would be a gorgeous movie! Let me know how she likes it! I got Linda hooked on Kate Morton, too.

  3. YAY!! So excited you did the tag! And I love your answers. I totally agree about long paragraphs - I often find myself switching off during reading cos they're so long! It's definitely good to have white space.
I LOVE your first answer: it's so true and beautifully put <3
I've never read The Distant Hours, but it sounds like something I'd love. And I think I need to re-read Jane Eyre; I was about 12 when I read it and I know I'd get a lot more out of it if I read it again now.
Glad you loved The Night Circus! Unfortunately, I didn't really enjoy it, but I do love the cover :)

Awesome post! Thanks for participating, Angela!

    1. Aww, thank you, Amy! I had a lot of fun with this! It was really hard to narrow it down to just three books!

  4. Great post! I so agree about books synopses... and I like shorter chapters too.

    1. Thanks! I feel like if a book has short chapters, I read it even faster, because I just want to keep reading, so I definitely prefer that!

  5. Great post! I check chapters for length prior to reading them too. If I don't think I finish it in the time I've set aside for reading that day, I won't even start it.

    1. Exactly! If I stop in the middle of a chapter, when I come back to it I'll probably have to read back a bit to remember what was going on.

  6. Reading the last page?! What blasphemy! Lol jk, I know some people do that, but I never do. I agree with your first two pet peeves though! When I read a book that doesn't match the blurb, that's usually the only time I do include a kind of summary in my review, so that people will know what they're actually getting. I don't have a problem stopping in the middle of the chapters though.

  7. Ahah I sometimes am VERY tempted to read the last few pages of a book but I try to refrain myself haha.
I haven't read The Night Circus but I've been hearing so many amazing things about this book :)

  8. Firstly - YAAAAY for doing the Tag! That's awesome! :)

I agree about bloggish inspiration - EVERYONE getting out there and putting their opinion up is an inspiration to me!

I also agree about the blog niche - I like having an open spot on the internet that is solely MINE to broadcast whatever I want! Although it's mainly YA fantasy books I may also occasionally dedicate posts to ... music? horses? Who knows! But it's mine to do with as I will. :)

Squeek! about your confession, although I MMMMAAAAYYY have done this once or twice myself... **blush**

YES! to all your pet peeves too! The synopsis is what tells me I want to read the book in the first place!

I definitely need to read The Night Circus. It's on the list!

And omg our confession is the same..I've done that too! People give me a murderous look when i tell them!!!And yes synopsis matters! Don't raise my expectations with it and give me something completely different!

And OMG I'm currently reading The Night Circus!! It's so hauntingly beautiful! I'll let you know how I liked it when i finish reading :)

Thanks again for doing the tag Angela! A virtual gold star from me! :P
