2019 Reading & Blogging Goals

It's a new year, so it's time to set some new reading and blogging goals!  I want to keep things simple while at the same time pushing myself a bit.

  1. Keep track of where I'm finding books.  I tend to find a lot of new books to read on my own, but I want to note when I get a recommendation from someone else.  This especially goes for if I read a spectacular review from another blogger and they've convinced me to read a book.  I may try incorporating this into reviews.
  2. Participate in at least two challenges.  Last year I did two year-long challenges, one summer challenge, and Nonfiction November.  I felt like that was a good number and I was able to keep up with everything.
  3. Read at least 12 nonfiction books.  This works out to one per month, but I don't want to commit to that necessarily.  I know some months might just get away from me.  I'm hoping to read way more than 12, but that's a good start!
  4. Bring back my "Try It, You Might Like It" feature.  I haven't done one of these since February 2018!  I have a couple ideas of genres I want to try out, but if you have any suggestions for lesser-known genres, please please let me know!
  5. Host a giveaway.  I've been pondering this for awhile, and I think it's time!  The blog will turn 3 this year and I want to do something to celebrate.  Not sure how to make this happen (I'm thinking an Amazon e-gift card), so if anyone has any tips, I'd be grateful!
  6. Read the unread physical books on my shelves.  I already had a few there and then I went and bought more and... it's kind of getting out of control for me!
  7. Reorganize my book shelves.  My books are generally organized by genre and that's fine, but the shelves themselves are so overstuffed.  I got rid of a lot of books when we moved, but I know I can still get rid of more, or at least put some in storage.  I want my shelves to look pretty!
What are some of your reading and/or blogging goals for the year?

  1. Nice goals! I especially like the first one. I should do that too - it'll be cool to see how many recommended books I actually read!

Rafflecopter is a great way to host your giveaway :) I'd recommend using that.

  2. I really like the idea of tracking how you found a book. I find most of mine combing GR, EW, NG, but there are definitely some put on my radar by actual people. When I host a giveaway, I do a book of choice from Book Depository, so I can include my international followers. I personally love Amazon gift cards, but I remember winning one from a UK blogger, and I could not use it on ebooks, because of publishing rights and what not. I was so annoyed.

  3. I really hope to read even more books than I did last year because it was way less than I had intended. Let's hope 2019 will be a great one! And rafflecopter is what I used when I held a giveaway, it's best :)

  5. I've always struggle to keep track of why I read books too! I always want to give credit to the reviewer that made me read it :) I used to include it in the reviews. I should do it again! into reviews. Wow three years congrats! The amazon gift card sounds good!
Good luck with all your resolutions!

  6. Good luck! I also need to focus on the books I already own. I keep buying new ones and reading those. For giveaways, I use Book Depository because it has free shipping to most of the world. The books are usually more expensive than on Amazon, though.

  8. Keeping track of where you find books sounds like a really good idea, I should really try to do that myself. I'd also like to try to read more nonfiction this year. These sound like some awesome goals, best of luck with them all!

  10. These are good goals! I have several physical books I haven't read yet. Even more Kindle books that I got on sale.

    1. I think the Kindle books would drive me nuts! At least with the physical books, there's a daily reminder, right in my face!

  11. This is a great list of goals. I'm still deciding on mine, but I know reading more of the books I already own will be on my list too. I like that you're continuing with your goal of reading more nonfiction too. I'm not much of a nonfiction reader, but I know I've added several books to my TBR after reading your nonfiction reviews. :)

  12. I would like to do some reading challenge goals too. Like read 5 non-fiction books (very hard for me), review the book right after reading it, catch up on my reviews etc. It is a bit hard for me, but I would like to do some in this new year.

    1. I think 5 nonfiction titles is a great goal! I need to write my reviews right after I finish the book, too.

    2. I always mean too, just doesn't happen as much as I would like. =)

  13. Love your list of goals! I hope to read more of my unread physical books too :) As for the giveaway, I think Book Depository might be a better option than Amazon? They have free worldwide shipping (few exceptions) and some really great discounts at times! :)

  14. Great goals !! I need to reorganize by shelves too. I agree with others and use book depository when I do giveaways.

  15. Great goals! I hope you manage to accomplish most if not all of them!

  16. I try to do that first one, it's just nice to kind of give credit when someone helps you find an amazing book! But it can def be easy to forget who rec'd it or reviewed it. Reorganizing book shelves is a lot of work, but also kinda fun! Good luck with all these :-)

  17. This is a great list! Reading books that I already own is huge on my list this year. I really need to catch up!

  18. Good goals! I like the one about keeping track of where you hear about books from -- I think tracking that would help to really identify the people and sources that resonate with you instead of letting a good pitch from a person with different tastes influence you too much.

  19. Great goals!
I want to start keeping track of where I find books and who recommended them, because sometimes I love a book that I read because of someone and I want to tell them but I cannot remember who it was! I'm going to start to write it down or something.

    1. Exactly! I think it's really nice to be able to tell someone that you loved a book that they recommended!

  20. I tend to tweet book reviews I like so I can go back to my tweets and look for where I first discovered it. That may help you.
Reading twelve nonfiction books is a great challenge. I tend to read so little nonfiction books but seeing everyone post during nonfiction November has made me think. I think this is more of a goal for next year though since I already have a few I want to tackle.
I don't know what your "Try It, You Might Like It" feature entails but I can kind of guess. What about asian literature or a specific classic literature set in a certain era?
You should be able to do a giveaway through rafflecopter. You can do it for free. You can have people gain points everyday or once for tweeting about the giveaway and following you in different social media platforms. You can even give out some recommendations which could make an interesting post. I've been thinking about doing the same this year because I'm horrible with giveaways and I have the money to do it now.
How many unread books do you have? I think I have around twenty. I need to get rid of some books as well. I'm thinking of doing one bookshelf the rainbow aesthetic.
    Good luck with your goals!

    1. Thank you so much, Adriana! I really enjoyed a lot of the nonfiction I read last year (in fact, my only 5-star read was a nonfiction book), so I wanted to maintain that momentum.

A lot of people are recommending Rafflecopter, so I will have to check that out!

I have probably about 20 unread books - not too many, but that's a lot for me!

  21. I love your goals, especially the simplicity of them. (That's a compliment; I often either take on too many goals or make them—or tracking them—too complicated.) And I like the sound of "Try It, You Might Like It." Good luck with all of them, especially pruning your shelves! (That's on my mental to-do list, too.)

    1. Thank you! Simplicity, that's really what I was going for - I wanted goals that were manageable but still meaningful.

  22. These are great goals, I hope you'll be able to achieve them all, Angela! :) I also want to keep track of where I find my books and yes, like you said, especially when it comes from a book blogger's glowing recommendation, because nothing makes me happier than someone telling me they read a book because of me, and I'd love to spread that joy :)

  23. I second the comment about simple goals and also not too restrictive. It seems like a good way to keep your goals fun :) I like to use The Book Depository for international giveaways, because they ship in a bunch of different countries, but amazon gift cards are always good too.
